Monster has started producing an energy shake that combines the amount of protein I recommend for longevity (25g) along with the amount of caffeine I recommend for nootropic benefit (157mg).
Welcome to 2014 — where the healthiest thing you could add to your diet is now an energy drink sold at 7-11 that’s distributed by Anheuser Busch.

João LourençoWhy do you recommend 25g? Seems too low.

Maxim KhesinWhat dietary context are you assuming?

João LourençoAnd how long before modappuccinos btw?

Marius van VoordenCan you say a bit more about the low protein > longevity link? I’m on Soylent, so I could take low protein easily… but you sort of need the essential amino acids, no?

Marius van VoordenAh right, they’re links on your blog. It links to http://rockstarresearch.com/new-longevity-benefits-of-whey-protein/
So if I understand it correctly, you take that much Whey protein *in addition to* normal food?

João LourençoThanks. Yes, that seems whey more reasonable(pun intended). I often take up to 300g a day and would have to worry if 25 was optimal.

Marius van Voorden300 seems excessive to me. I’m fine on 90 grams of protein total per day, with light to moderate activity, 60 kg body weight. But I don’t know much about what happens with too high/too low amounts.

Tilia BellAnd how much sugar is in it? O_o;;

João LourençoIt is a truckload of protein, and hard to swallow. I only take it because I’m at ~120kg and (sometimes) train powerlifting. I don’t suppose it’s unhealthy though, as far as I know there’s no evidence for high protein diets being unhealthy, and they have looked for it.

Louie Helm25g protein is enough to supplement (for the avg diet). You would want more if it was all you were eating. But I do consider this a pretty healthy breakfast. Drinking this Monster would be better than eating Raisin Bran and Coffee, for instance.

Scott FowlerIIRC past ~200 grams is where people start talking about possible issues; my understanding is that as long as your kidney function isn’t impaired you should be fine to handle that much.
