Stanford University Online High School

Forget public schools vs private schools. If I were in high school or middle school again, I would drop out and enroll in Stanford University Online High School.

  • Fully accredited
  • Alumni ace their SAT & AP tests
  • And routinely get into elite universities
Going to a legacy high school is probably only something you should do if you don’t care about learning or you really want to help subsidize the make-work programs for your local teachers unions.

    Hard to say if that result would transfer to the USA. My (very anecdotal and almost stereotypical) experience after spending a reasonable amount of time in Brazil (and studying at USP) is that Brazilians are far more social at every point in their life than Americans. This is especially true in high school, where I feel most Americans have a very hard time expanding their social network. In my high school almost every exchange student had a below average social circle size (presumably because the American students rarely try and expand their circles to new people); however, the Brazilian exchange students tended to have an above average social circle, despite the “hostile” environment toward exchange students.

    When I did a similar thing my already low motivation became practically non existent. though to be fair I imagine Stanford has a more interesting program than our local online high school options.

    Also seconding the social circle being important thing. That can be mitigated by deliberate action but having a default social group to interact with isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
