What if http://intelligence.org hosted a copy of HPMOR, or a landing page that sent users off to lesswrong.com? Could ads be targeted to direct traffic to that instead?
Google Grants requires that you link to a page within the domain that you used to sign up (intelligence.org in this case). You could link to something other than MIRI’s home page, but it’s not obvious that’s better. HPMOR, etc. is just a stepping stone on the path to MIRI. Maybe it could help with inferential distance, though.
Have you tried marketing free conferences, meet ups on AI in general? This seems like a natural first step before introducing people to papers about CEV or TDT, as an example.
Yeah, there’s an interesting question of why people don’t proliferate 501c3’s in order to get more Google Grants (GGs). It seems like a bad idea to undertake a project of breeding 501c3’s just to collect huge amounts of GG money, but if you’re already considering a charity anyway, the prospect of GGs could push it over the edge.
Thanks for writing this Louie Helm! TLYCS just got eligible for GGs, and we’d love to hear any other tips you might have for getting the most impact from them. Could I put you in touch with our web guy?

Jonas VollmerProbably a Google Grant would be worth the effort of making LW a separate 501(3)(c)?
