Many of us want a “Minority Report”-style interface to control our computers.
There are many options that are “almost ready” for prime time but all have their drawbacks (see below).
In the mean time, one interesting project is WiSee. It’s only an academic project. But it’s extra cool because it uses doppler effects in wifi signals to track your gestures anywhere in your home. I doubt this will be a product in 2014 though.
So for now, current options appear to be:
- The super-expensive Oblong
- Pre-ordering an expensive armband that may never ship
- Buying a crappy sensor from Leap Motion
- Buying a weak webcam from Creative
- Buying the dev kit only Kinect for Windows
- Waiting on vaporware like eyeSight or PointGrab
- Dealing with the lazy start-up that quit working on their product as soon as Google acquired them.
- Maybe for the next year, the best option would be get Dragon Dictate and use that instead?
