“Everyone should take the flu seriously and get the vaccine,” says van Amerongen. “The shots are a safe, inexpensive way to prevent getting sick.”
New flu vaccine is available. I got a shot for free today, but would have unhesitatingly paid $30 to get one at Walgreens or CVS if I had no insurance.
The expected value of getting one for me is over $3000 because I value my time (and my coworkers’ time) somewhat highly. But even if I used a wage lower-bound and didn’t value my health/wellbeing (or anyone elses), it would still have been worth roughly $600.
More motivating way to look at this: Not getting a flu shot would have been as irrational for me as betting $10 a spin on roulette for 53 hours straight.
