“Readline” is a highly-rated new Chrome extension. It lets you speed read any selected text directly in your browser.
“Reedy” is another popular alternative that does the same thing.
They both have a basic intuitive interface with good keyboard shortcuts as you get more advanced. These are good companions to iPad training tools like Acceleread.

Jeff AlstottA thousand times this! I thought Spritz’s database was proprietary, but this is free and appears to be doing just fine. Do you know of a tool like this for ebooks? And/or PDFs? That would be the biggest killer for me.

TaurusJeff, this works beautifully for me. “Speed Reader.” It’s old, and I’ve been using it for a while, but I’m personally not aware of anything better for android…

Jim BabcockYou should try Textcelerator (http://www.textcelerator.com) (disclaimer: I’m the author). It’s also a speed-reading tool that works as a browser plugin, but better.

TaurusI’ve been using Spreed; essentially the same thing with a different interface (Rapid Serial Visual Presentation). Highly recommended.
