Back in May 2009, I read the bible hoping to glean all the literary value, poetry, and deep wisdom I had been repeatedly told was in there. Instead I found a book single-mindedly dedicated to advocating genocide, murder, war, bigotry, hatred, slavery, and misogyny. I only finished because I’m stubborn and I wanted to see just how horrible the totality of the text was.
Upon finishing, these were my best two ideas to deal with the widespread ignorance of how wicked the bible is:
1. Make a visualization nearly identical to the one BibViz eventually made.
2. Start a charity to sponsor Christians to read the entire bible. Otherwise upright people can tolerate bible study where they are strategically guided around 90% of the bible. But any halfway moral person wouldn’t be able to stomach an actual linear read though. Despite my cynicism about peoples’ ability to update on evidence, I still think this could save lots of good people.
